‘Mr. Cuomo’s veneer of competence has been stripped bare by failure after failure across the state of New York.’
New York–July 2…Andrew Cuomo has squandered billions of tax dollars in his eight years as governor through sheer incompetence and mismanagement,” Dutchess County Executive and New York gubernatorial candidate Marc Molinaro today charged.
Mr. Molinaro made his remarks on the heels of a New York Times exposé outlining some of Mr. Cuomo’s many failed promises associated with the so-called “Buffalo Billion” project, a $1.5 billion public outlay that has repeatedly missed its benchmarks, and which has devolved into criminal corruption trials. Close Cuomo associates are currently in federal criminal court on charges of rigging Buffalo construction contracts for big-dollar Cuomo donors. Others have already plead guilty.
“Mr. Cuomo’s veneer of competence has been stripped bare by failure after failure across the state of New York,” County Executive Molinaro said. “Projects that raised him millions in political donations have wasted billions of taxpayer dollars through corruption and appalling mismanagement. Be it StartUp NY, Riverbend in Buffalo, the Central New York Film Hub in Syracuse, or announced-then-abandoned projects such as a convention center at Aqueduct, a gondola at the State Fair Grounds, or the Long Island to Westchester tunnel, this governor has defrauded 20 million New Yorkers with expensive and empty promises that served only to line his campaign coffers in many cases.”
Mr. Cuomo received an estimated $350,000 in donations directly and through the efforts of the developer on trial in the Buffalo Billion bid-rigging case; Mr. Cuomo is refusing to return $400,000 in political donations from individuals associated with Crystal Run Healthcare, whose $25 million in state grants are currently under investigation by the FBI and Orange County prosecutors, and he has refused to return $300,000 given to him by people associated with the never-opened 52,000-square-foot Central New York Film Hub that was built with $15 million in public funding. (The state was forced to sell the brand-new, made-to-order facility for $1 last month.)
“New Yorkers are being bled dry by Andrew Cuomo’s statewide failures,” Mr. Molinaro said. “As our subways crumble; as children are being poisoned by lead and other water contaminants; as housing for the mentally ill and long-term developmentally disabled goes unbuilt, this governor continues cutting ribbons and making promises few now believe. All the while, Mr. Cuomo continues amassing a political campaign fortune. It should be hung around his neck as a mark of shame.”
